About Meet the Classics
The stories we grew up with. For the readers growing up now.
Great novels like Pride and Prejudice and Little Women are full of the things children love: big families, funny characters, brave choices, and happy endings. But the original books are written for grown-up readers, so most children don’t meet them until much later — if at all.
Meet the Classics changes that. Each book is a complete retelling of a beloved classic, written for ages 6–9. We keep the real plot, the real characters, and some of the author’s own famous lines, and we tell the story in short, clear passages that a young reader can enjoy on their own or with a grown-up.
And because every page has a painting, children can follow the story through pictures as well as words — the ball at Netherfield, the muddy walk, the grand house at Pemberley.
Our hope is simple: that a child who meets Elizabeth Bennet at seven will be delighted to meet her again at seventeen.
